History

Year 7

The study of History in Year 7 allows students to develop important historical skills and subject knowledge through the following topics:

Scheme of Work Summary:

  • Term 1 – The Norman Conquest
  • Term 2 – Religion in Medieval England
  • Term 3 – The Crusades
  • Term 4 – The Problems of Medieval Monarchs
  • Term 5 – The Black Death
  • Term 6 – Migration

 

Year 8

Students in Year 8 continue their studies of History developing historical skills and subject knowledge through the following:

Scheme of Work Summary:

  • Term 1 – Challenges to the Catholic Church
  • Term 2 – The English Civil War
  • Term 3 – Changing ideas: 1660 to 1789
  • Term 4 – The Slave Trade
  • Term 5 – The British Empire
  • Term 6 – The Industrial Revolution

 

Year 9

This year, due to studies completed in Year 8, students will complete their Key Stage 3 studies with a focus on:

Scheme of Work Summary:

  • Term 1 – Getting the Vote
  • Term 2 – The First World War
  • Term 3 – The Second World War
  • Term 4 – The Holocaust
  • Term 5 – Life during the Cold War
  • Term 6 – What’s the best way to bring about change?

Year 10

History is an optional subject studied in Key Stage 4. In Year 10, students will commence their GCSE studies and in doing so will engage in historical enquiry to develop as independent and reflective thinkers.  The 9 – 1 Edexcel History GCSE requires students to develop the ability to ask relevant questions about the past, to investigate issues critically and to make valid historical claims by using a range of sources in their historical context.

Qualification: Edexcel GCSE 9-1 History

Scheme of Work Summary:

  • Term 1 – C1250 – c1500: Medicine in medieval England / C1500-c1700 – The Medical Renaissance

  • Term 2 – C1700 –c1900 – Medicine in 18th and 19th Century Britain / C1900 – Present Modern Medicine

  • Term 3 – The British Sector of the Western Front 1914 – 1918 injuries, treatments and the trenches

  • Term 4 – Early Elizabethan England 1558 – 1588

  • Term 5 – Challenges to Elizabeth at home and abroad 1569 – 88 / Elizabethan society in the Age of Exploration 1558-88

  • Term 6 - Weimar and Nazi Germany 1918 – 1939

 

Year 11

In the final year of this GCSE qualification, revision and exam techniques form the basis of lesson learning with Year 11 students consolidating the skills required for their final examinations and revisiting the topics studied throughout their Key Stage 4 studies in preparation for their final examinations. 

Qualification: Edexcel GCSE 9-1 History

Scheme of Work Summary:

Term 1 – Weimar and Nazi Germany 1918 – 1939

Term 2 – Superpower relations and the Cold War 1941 – 91

Term 3 – Superpower relations and the Cold War 1941 – 91

Term 4 – Examination Practice and Revision Techniques

Term 5 – Examination Practice and Revision Techniques

In Year 11, students will complete their final examinations for the GCSE History qualification.
