History

Year 7

The study of History in Year 7 allows students to develop important historical skills and subject knowledge through the following:

Scheme of Work Summary:

  • Term 1 – What is History? The skills to investigate history and commence studies into  The Roman Empire
  • Term 2 – The Romans Empire
  • Term 3 – 1066 and the Norman Conquest
  • Term 4 – 1066 and the Conquest of England
  • Term 5 – Life in Medieval England
  • Term 6 - The Peasants Revolt and the Magna Carta

 

Year 8

Students in Year 8 continue their studies of History developing historical skills and subject knowledge through the following:

  • Term 1 and 2 – The Tudors
  • Term 3 and 4 – The Stuarts
  • Term 5 and 6 – The Industrial Revolution

 

Year 9

This year, due to studies completed in Year 8, students will complete their Key Stage 3 studies with a focus on:

Year 10

History is an optional subject studied in Key Stage 4. In Year 10, students will commence their GCSE studies and in doing so will engage in historical enquiry to develop as independent and reflective thinkers, and develop the ability to ask relevant questions about the past, to investigate issues critically and to make valid historical claims by using a range of sources in their historical context.

Qualification: Edexcel GCSE History (2016 Specification)

  • Term 2 – Early Elizabethan England, 1558-88
  • Term 3 – The American West c1835 - c1895
  • Term 4 – The American West c1835 - c1895
  • Term 5 – Life in Nazi Germany 1918 - 1939
  • Term 6 - Life in Nazi Germany 1918 - 1939

 

Year 11

In the final year of this GCSE qualification, Revision and exam techniques form the basis of lesson learning with Year 11 students revisiting the topics studied throughout their Key Stage 4 studies in preparation for their final examinations. 

Qualification: Edexcel GCSE History B
