Safer Internet Day

Today is Safer Internet Day. Throughout this week, our young people will be learning in PSHE lessons and assemblies how to be safe online. They will also learn how to make the internet a better and safer place for everyone.

Information Technology is an essential part of our daily lives and brings many benefits. On the other hand, there are also risks, which can lead to some awful consequences as we hear too often in the media. We, at Holmesdale, are working hard to embed online safety learning within our curriculum. Our students must be supported to be able to manage and respond to risk when going online.

Parents have a vital role to play in online safety education. But, the advances in technologies can sometimes to be quite daunting. However, help is at hand if you need it. The UK Safer Internet Centre has many tips and guidance for parents. There is also a free Parents Guide to Technology which highlights safety tools and is aimed to empower you with the knowledge you need to monitor your children’s use of technologies.

The following can be accessed at:

Don’t forget to look at the parent support section on our school website, which also has a safeguarding page with tips and guidance.

For further support, please do not hesitate to contact our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Mrs Andrew, who is here to help.
